Post-yoga retreat (more on that later) I moved back to Sydney and into a lovely new home. The beach life dream was achieved as our home sits just a leisurely walk from the ocean, in Freshwater. Of course a new location meant making the most of every opportunity to explore my new local area. I've made a pretty good start - finding places to brunch, lunch, shop independently, and sit in semi-isolation taking in the scenery.
My closest favourites are Cruise, Cooh and Penny Lane. So here's Cruise, first up.
Cruise wins hands down for any hot drink with chocolate in it. Cue my steady obsession with mochas, having previously been a coffee only kinda girl. Cruise uses molten chocolate which you can swirl around the bottom of your glass and eat with a spoon at the end. Molten chocolate. None of this sugar-filled powder stuff, the coffee-chocolate combo isn't too sweet.
Drawn into the small space by it's beautifully white scripted 'Cruise Espresso' sign out front, you're confronted with a lot of wood, Edison-style lightbulbs, and some terrariums. Those three things alone are some of my favourites, so I guess I'm somewhat of a sucker for this place. It doesn't help that they have a huge "Do More of What Makes You Happy" slogan on the wall, bringing a little happiness into my morning just by walking in.

A beautiful collection of creative magazines (Yen, Frankie, Peppermint...) are all laid out for you to flick your way through, or get lost in, while you sip away at whatever delicious beverage you've bought. There's free WiFi, coffee beans/merchandise and Bahen&Co chocolate for sale, and sometimes live music, pop-ups, and workshops! Their social media, photographs, and branding are on point, their Instagram is just one of many I genuinely enjoy scrolling through - and their following reflects that!
They've also now got an all day breakfast menu compiled of many tasty eggs, avocado, muesli types of dishes. And of course, like most things at Cruise, the presentation of it all is aesthetically pleasing. Tiny milk bottles, calm blue cups and saucers, wooden boards, and even their teaspoons are the vintage kind with different emblems on each. Check out their cold drink and baked goods offerings too.
